independent recording network

I stumbled on to one of these two tools from the independent recording network. They both are very useful. You have to download the compression tutorial which is a little strange but it is very informative. I think I have a decent understanding of compression but this defiantly solidified that understanding. It would would be great reading for a newcomer or someone confused by the subject. What makes in a great tutorial is that in explains principles, uses, and how to achieve what is desired. to often I have read use “x” setting for a snare drum track etc. And i think that is really a bunch of bs. It depends on what you want the snare drum to sound like and the quality of the track itself. This tutorial diverges from that “preset” idea to how to use compression as a tool to sculpt your sound.

I never went to juliard(I barely know an oboe from my elbow) but still love to foll around with symphonic sounds. The interactive frequency chart is extremely useful. Knowing where all the instruments fit in spectrum really helps. Finding the right place for each instrument in large groups is always a challenge.
