Boost R.V.B.

Maker: Tech 21

Year: Coming to a store near you soon.

Fame: Its brand brand new.

Mojo Factor: It has a lot of knobs that can’t hurt.

Price: Reasonable considering it is a two for one.

Who it’s for:

A booster and reverb is an interesting combo. A lot of players might only need this to to drive a tube amp and provide reverb for the reverbless amp. And who doesn’t love that vintage verb sound.

Manufacturers Sales Pitch:

Tech 21 brings a fresh perspective to the standard reverb pedal. By incorporating a clean Boost function, up to 9dB, your solos will jump out with greater dimension. The Boost R.V.B. is designed with user-tweakable, “lo-fi” analog technology. By manipulating the controls, you can infuse degrees of warmth and life characteristic of vintage reverbs. The circuitry intentionally injects the inherent imperfections of vintage units, which is what makes them so seductive and nostalgic. A single, continuously-variable Time control provides a full sweep of size. The Boost R.V.B. parameters are engineered so that you can explore and custom tailor such reverb styles as spring, plate and natural room/hall ambiance.

GGG or a MIllion Tiny Holes

GGG is one of my favorite pedal sites. I haven’t visited for a while and was pleasantly surprised to find it redesigned. It looks slick. It has good schematics for a lot of good projects and some general building info. Besides the schematics it has a quality layouts for their own boards. I have used a few boards from them for the higher part count projects I have built. The are great, ship quick, and with the online layout easy to build. I ordered a board one time and it apperantly got lost in the mail. Damn the USPS! I got a replacement quick with no questions asked. Good service. The clear layout and bill of material makes it perfect of a first timer. I think it is a good idea for most to use pcb’s for projects with many components. The is a much higher chance of it initially working. I use perf and strip board for small stuff but after a certain point it is a little much to deal with. For me that is worth the $10-15 bucks for a board to reduce the chance of the often frustrating experience for trouble shooting. You always could etch your own but if you are like me and do not consider using noxious chemicals and drilling millions of tiny holes fun this might be a the prefect site for you.

Reel Echo

Maker: Danelectro

Who it’s for:

If you are looking for that warm sound of tape echo this could be for you.

The Blues Blues Or Interent Rock Throwing

I have been so stuck in a pentatonic blues rut. I think it happens to quite a few guitarist I imagine. I am kind of a single note run power code guy. I am note that interested in most of the theoretical complexities. It is not my thing.

What I have found difficult about it is that some much of the music I love is based is based on pentatonic and blues scales. It is easy to fall in the same pattern. I might have a blue or pentatonic soul. What i am making a conscious effort at doing is trying to live up the same old stuff I play by doing things different. Maybe I still trapped in the pentatonic box but I am trying to do different things in it. It takes some effort to stay way from the familiar I am finding it worth it. But there is some work is involved. It been to long since I have working on things and I have forgotten how good it is to learn something even slightly new.

I was going to include some links to sites that are helping me escape my rut but I have found that if you a throw in the Internet it will probably bounce a nude photo or two of Paris Hilton and a few videos of pet doing something funny and land on a site with guitar lessons, tips or tab. So, since everyone learns differently Google will be your friend if your like me and need to break out of your rut.

Stumbling or K.I.S.S. rules

Stumble upon is pretty amazing. I stumbled my Free Plugins Guide late a few nights ago. It got about 700 hits just from Stumble Upon in the next 24 hours. Especially since the recording gear category is probably not one of the most popular.

To quote a review of one stumbler:

lots of those vst audio things to bloat your hard drive with so you can spend loads of time fiddling instead of creating ;)

I could not agree more actually. Well, at least with the second part. The little .dll’s hardly take up any space. But it is a good point. While I think the list is a really good one I do not have all the listed plugins on my hard drive. The ones I do have are organized carefully in an appropriate folder in a way that make sense to me. If I realize I do not use something or like something else that does the same thing better it is deleted. I have finally learned to do this. There maybe a bounty of tools free or otherwise out there but I found it is much better to have a few that you like and know well. Keep It Simple Stupid sometimes needs to be written above my monitors.

I still endless tinker with tracks but that is a lot of the enjoyment for my hobbyist self. I don’t have deadlines. But I find I spend a lot less time trying to figure things out and looking for the plugins I want and get to tinker more. Which is fine by me.

Tubulator or What Lurks Behind the Window

This is my newly modded Arion Tubulator. Changed a few thing besides the cosmetics. You might be wondering what is behind that window. That and more info and pics at kubton.com. If you have $12 it isn’t a bad pick up.

TriBooster

Maker: BYOC

Type: Booster

Made in: Your Home

Year: Currently in Production

Fame: As this kind of thing goes my most famous supplier.

Mojo Factor: As much as you want to give it.

Price: This is a little tricky. A little expensive if you consider the price and the fact you have to build it but it is three boosters in one.

General Sound Description:

3 booster sounds in 1 pedal. The treble boost of the Rangemaster, a Electro-Harmonix LPB clone plus a clean mosfet booster.

Who it’s for:

The DIY’er that wants multiple boosts and needs to save money or space on the pedal board. Or maybe a first time builder that would like a kit.

Manufacturer Sales Pitch:

The TriBooster is the ultimate boost. The
three most essential boosts in one unit — A
germanuim boost based on the Dallas
rangemaster treble boost, a silicon based
Linear Power Boost, and a MosFET based
Clean boost. A 3-way rotary switch
changes the circuits and the LED status
light changes colors from red to blue to
green when you switch between the three
different modes. There is a toggle switch to
change the germanium mode from a treble
boost to a full range or mid range boost.
The kit comes with an NOS European made
germanium transistor. All the boost you’ll
ever need for less than the price of most
“single” boosts.

Most Original "Album" Ever or DIY Media???

Found the link onebitmusic in the SOS forum. Pretty crazy. We have all heard of making homebrew diy gadgets like effects and instruments but the actual media. I am not even sure media is the right word. What ever you call it it is pretty cool if not the most practical thing. Maybe the most original album ever.
