Stumbling or K.I.S.S. rules

Stumble upon is pretty amazing. I stumbled my Free Plugins Guide late a few nights ago. It got about 700 hits just from Stumble Upon in the next 24 hours. Especially since the recording gear category is probably not one of the most popular.

To quote a review of one stumbler:

lots of those vst audio things to bloat your hard drive with so you can spend loads of time fiddling instead of creating ;)

I could not agree more actually. Well, at least with the second part. The little .dll’s hardly take up any space. But it is a good point. While I think the list is a really good one I do not have all the listed plugins on my hard drive. The ones I do have are organized carefully in an appropriate folder in a way that make sense to me. If I realize I do not use something or like something else that does the same thing better it is deleted. I have finally learned to do this. There maybe a bounty of tools free or otherwise out there but I found it is much better to have a few that you like and know well. Keep It Simple Stupid sometimes needs to be written above my monitors.

I still endless tinker with tracks but that is a lot of the enjoyment for my hobbyist self. I don’t have deadlines. But I find I spend a lot less time trying to figure things out and looking for the plugins I want and get to tinker more. Which is fine by me.
