Ah, crazy life. I can’t believe it was only yesterday. But it was yesterday I posted about the new Pitchfork.tv. Well, on it today is a video tour of Death by Audio’s pedal making empire.
Good viewing lovers of noisy music or noisy gadgets.
I just found this crazy little box on the web. This I have posted quite a bit of video related stuff lately this Analogue Video Synthesizer is fitting. Be sure to check out the video of it action. It can really mangle. You should explore the rest of the site also. It is a bit odd but the is some cool stuff to be found.
Aux Ames has won the controller arms race. Surrender now. All arcade hardware should makes it tough. Since arcade buttons can stand up to greasy adolescent angst it can probably stand up to almost any thing.
What was the first musical instrument? OK, it had to be the drum. My guess for the second was a flute. It is not real hard to make. Essentially it is just a tube with some holes in it.
So, this a music DIY project anyone can do that can operate a drill. Pete Kosel has a web page that has not been changed since ‘99. It kind of hard to read with the brick wall background but hey that was web design back then. It is still no where near how bad myspace pages are going to look in a decade or so. Wait, what am I saying they look worse now.
Anyway, back to flutes. These page has some good tips and most important measurements and materials list. You can make flutes and fifes that are in-tune with a wonderful western music system. Which is cool but if you have a good tuner and the inclination you could make flutes that play crazy scales or micro-tonal weirdness. And that would be something you can would find in a high school band room. It might take a little experimentation but PVC is cheap.
It would be a good project to do with a kid. It is not hard and could be a hands on lesson in the physics of sound.

ADACHI makes some crazy stuff. I would go to a Tupperware party that had these. They look cool. A good enclosure if you don’t have worry about interference. The pretty damn tough as any 70’s house wife could tell you. It is a very interesting site. I like the vegetable instruments also.

Leap year is only making it hard up at thing-a-day ranjit is making a musical thing for ever day in February. This goes to show anything can be used to make music. You can find more of his wonderful weirdness at moonmilk.
