Henry Rollins vs. Iggy Pop or The Slim & Invincible

This is a great story. Henry Rollins can be a little repetitious in a telling and he makes it seem like almost an athletic competition which I am not sure even high energy Rock n Roll qualifies but still a great story. I am not sure I am into “spoken word” but I certain like good stories especially if they are about people like Iggy that live in a different world than the rest of use.

There should be Iggy Pop the movie. But who the hell would you cast as Iggy.

Chinese Democracy or 23 Flavors

I found this at Music Unreality but made most of the major news outlets, etc. Dr. Pepper’s ad gurus have layed down a challenge of sorts to Axl Rose:

Tired of a world in which Americans idolise wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock ‘n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (ok, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-years-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, Chinese Democracy, in 2008.

In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time - anytime! - in 2008.

Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.”

Rose’s response:

We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album “Chinese Democracy,” as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.

Axl Rose

This is all very humorous to me. Axl’s response was on the GNR website. The last time GNR released a real album of orignal material was 1991. Then a website was a place where a spider lived. Whatever meaing Chinese Democracy was supposed to have it certainly might not fit now. China was isolated country with a stagnate economy back when this whole thing started. With $14 million of recording fees and 17 years Guns ‘n’ Roses have managed to release 8 less albums than Tupac Shakur has in the last 10 years. Not very impressive considering Tupac has been dead the last decade. I am not counting on a free soda.

Al Kooper Tapes or Cult Audio

Posting the Casey Kasem clip in another post got me on think about the Al Kooper’s Kapusta Kristmas Album and other funny audio out takes. The post is too long for these pages but you can check it out here:

WORST.COVERS.EVER. or A Whole Lot of 70’s Suits

To lighten things up a little on Monday(which is Holioday a lot of people our off but not me) here is a list. Apperantly after porn & piracy the only other thing the Internet is good for is lists. There are a lot of them even other worst Album cover list. But this one is great and includes a bunch of horrible artwork I have never seen before. If you don’t ask, “What the hell they were thinking,” let some one else choose your art work for you.

Guitar Hero or Who Needs a Full Stop

I have heard a lot of guitarist rip on Guitar Hero. I have to admit I remember seeing the arcade game it was based upon in the film Lost in Translation and thinking it was pretty cool. Little did I know what a phenomenon it was going to become. It is more than slightly cheesy and a lot out of control and certain too much time has been dedicated to it. Still in has been called the greatest guitar gateway device and it is hard to argue with that. I imagine a lot of the people it turns on to playing real guitar give it up shortly after starting but many people do that anyway. Anything that gets people playing is good by me. The more people making music the better. I can’t imagine real pilots making so much fun or having so much bitterness towards people that play flight sims.

Anyway I wanted to post this review well because it is funny as hell. Yahtzee puts Guitar Hero to the flame. If you game at all or just like extremely critical reviews and dark humor delivered at the pace of a mongoose on meth you should check out his other reviews.

Melancholy Monday or Knowing is Half the Battle

This is kind of Melancholy good for a Monday in the gloomy holiday season.

I remember these from my youth. I have the tools to do this of course but it hard to do than it looks. This ridiculous nonsensical humor kind of humor that I love can be tough I make to much sense for it. I can’t believe that last line would apply to me. There is so much fodder of over dub the comedians out there with simple audio tools.

Carlos Santana Shreds

Greatest Guitar Solo Ever or Clap Along

I hurt myself laughing.

Recording Show Domestic Violence or Champagne Jam

I had to post another Mr. Show I think this is the funniest skit ever. A lot of great lines in quick succession. You have to at least watch until Ronnie sings. Why do I think something like this probably happen at a recording studio somewhere sometime?

Titannica or Try Again

I had to post this because it is too funny.
